Head lice are not known to transmit any disease and therefore are not considered a health hazard. Head lice infestations can be asymptomatic, particularly with a first infestation or when an infestation is light.

Nix is an OTC version of 1 percent permethrin. It’s most often used for head lice. Most doctors recommend using permethrin of at least 5 percent for the treatment of scabies in order to kill both the mites and their eggs.

Lice are small insects that live on the skin. They are often connected to hair on the scalp or in the pubic area. When you have lice, it is called pediculosis. Scabies is a condition caused by mites, which are tiny, insect-like animals that dig under the skin.

You shouldn’t use dog shampoo to treat lice on humans. It’s true that it may contain some of the same active ingredients as some anti-lice shampoos, but dog shampoo is not made for, nor has it been tested on humans.

1. Shampoo with anti-lice shampoo. Wash your dog’s hair with a shampoo containing d-Limonene, a non toxic, citrus shampoo.
2. Manually remove nits. Comb your dog thoroughly with a fine tooth comb or lice comb.
3. Repeat bathing. Repeat bathing for several days.
4. Clean items and pets.
5. Apply lemon juice.

Transmission is usually through direct contact with another infested animal, although they can also be passed on from contaminated bedding, dog collars, or grooming tools. Lice may be a threat wherever dogs congregate, such as dog daycare centers, dog shows, boarding kennels, and parks.

Dust mites are common indoors where they feed on dander (bits of shed skin) from people and pets. Large numbers may persist in beds, couches and carpet, but are generally too small to be seen with the naked eye. People sometimes think dust mites are capable of causing itching and bite-like reactions but this is untrue.
