Stain Buster — Jelly

Gently wipe any excess gelatin. Mix dishwashing detergent in hot water and swish to make a great volume of suds. Dip a cloth in only the foam and apply to the stain. Rinse with a clean cloth dipped and wrung out in clear water.

To remove the stain, mix a solution of one teaspoon hand dishwashing detergent liquid with two cups warm water. If there has been artificial dye added to the jam or jelly and the stain remains, treat the stain with a clean cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.

1. Flush stain with cool water.
2. Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent with one quart of warm water.
3. Rinse with water.
4. If the stain remains, sponge with rubbing alcohol and rinse thoroughly.
5. Launder, using chlorine bleach, if safe for the fabric.

Red Gatorade stains can be especially difficult to remove. Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to a quart of warm water as a treatment for any remaining red stain on carpet, clothing or upholstery. Wet a white cloth with the vinegar solution, then press the cloth over the remainder of the stain.

Mix one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent, one-half cup distilled white vinegar and two cups of warm water. Use a clean white cloth to blot this solution into the stain. Work from the outside edges toward the center to prevent spreading the stain.

Pre-treat the stain with lemon juice or vinegar and allow it to sit on the stain for 5 minutes. Rinse the stain with water to make sure the acid doesn’t damage the fabric. In most cases, this pre-treatment will loosen the stain and it will come out by rubbing with detergent or throwing in the washer.

If stain remains, apply denatured alcohol to a clean cloth and apply to stain. Follow with a cloth or sponge dipped in clear water, removing all traces of alcohol.

Although rubbing alcohol is an effective stain remover, it may not be right for certain fabrics. It can cause fading and even some damage. Thus, you must be careful and test the fabric of the garment before using alcohol for stain removal.

Plain liquor stains can usually be removed by laundering the garment as usual in the hottest water recommended for the fabric. Do not dry any clothes in a clothes dryer until you work the stain entirely out of the fabric. Drying the stain in a clothes dryer will make it difficult to fully remove the stain.

Denatured alcohol and isopropyl alcohol will safely remove stains from many fabrics. To remove stubborn stains, moisten a cotton ball or cotton cloth with a few drops of denatured alcohol. Test the alcohol first on an inconspicuous part of the garment and allow the fabric to dry.

Nail polish remover can stain clothes and may cause a bleaching effect. Chemicals in the remover may leave residual traces on fabric that look like stains. To lift nail polish remover stains from clothing, treat the area with a stain remover. Then launder according to the garment’s instructions.

But hand sanitizer will work. Simply rub the stain – ink stain, blood stain — with some hand sanitizer, and most if not all of the stain should go away.
